Context
Not recorded in most catalogues, but can be found here: A1, N. Rhodes (ed. W. Bertsch), "The Coinage of Samatata", JONS 228, Summer 2016, pp.9-15 One of many post Gupta states, the issuance of gold coinages from the Samatata Kingdom follow the general type of the Gupta Coins issued before them, but are different in purity, clarity and weight. This kingdom was located in mostly in what is today Bengal, succeeding the Gupta power base in the region. Not much is known about their internal politics or specific kings, with numismatics being important to our understanding of them.
