Context
The Gonds of Deogarh were a royal house that ruled large parts of Vidarbha and parts of present-day southern Madhya Pradesh in India. Their Kingdom consisted of the area which later became the Nagpur Kingdom. The Gond dynasty was founded by Jatba, 1580–1620CE. Kok Shah (c. 1620 – 1640CE) under whose rule this coin was issued, was the son of Jatba. The Gond kingdom of Deogarh reached its peak under Bakht Buland Shah and his successor Chand Sultan. After this, internal fighting led to the demise of the kingdom.
